Represent!!!

Each week we will post this section so that if you are new you can tell us what school you are from and what organization you are working with!

Also use this section as a way to network with other organizations in your surrounding area and wherever interests you!

  1. Hey Everyone!

This is the place where we can each introduce ourselves and organizations. So I shall introduce myself!

My name is Annie Warshaw and I am a graduate student at Roosevelt University in Chicago Illinois! I did my undergraduate studies at University of Central Florida and was a member of CODEPink, NOW and Vox.

Currently I am a member of Feminists United at Roosevelt. We are a small organization but have awesome dedicated members. We ran into some rough patches last semester when our funding was cut off, but it is what it is and we are going to move forward this semester.

My best pal Frankie and I decided to make this blog after speaking one night about the frustrations we both encounter within the feminist movement. I hope this blog helps the movement gain even more strength.

I look forward to hearing from you!

  2. My name is Stephen Adler. I am a fourth year undergrad at the University of Illinois at Chicago studying gender & women's studies and applied psychology. I have been involved with Feminists United at UIC for a couple years now, and last year started Men Against Sexual Violence to engage men in anti-sexual violence activism. I am an education and outreach volunteer with Rape Victim Advocates and also a trained medical advocate. Additionally, I am the student worker at UIC's Office of Women's Affairs and Campus Advocacy Network (CAN).

Last semester MASV, FU, and other student groups poured all their efforts into saving CAN. Fortunately, we won, and the university gave CAN bridge funding to apply for a grant in 09-10, and if they do not get the grant the university will institutionalize us. However, we have heard that before.

Right now I am working on planning a conference for male-identified folks only to talk about masculinity and violence, and it will take place on April 24-26. Any Chicago people who want to support should get at me! And, if anyone is interested, I go to a support group for anti-violence workers which takes place the first Wednesday of every month. All are welcome and I can give you info if you e-mail me - sadler3@uic.edu.

  3. Heyy peoples!!!

In following Annie's lead I'm going to introduce myself too! My name is Frankie and I am currently an English major and Women's Studies minor at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. Rollins is a traditionally conservative institution with more International Business majors than one school needs. Although engaging the campus in feminist activities can seem like a daunting task at times, the support of amazing like-minded faculty at Rollins is often a pillar of strength for me. The problems each feminist organization faces is unique and obviously depends heavily on the campus' activist climate. Yet, discussing problems specific to one school can be very relatable to feminists at another. This is where GRRRLcampus comes in! This blog is intended to be used as a tool for sorting out our frustrations, getting the word out on events, and just to generally connect with those who are in the same boat as us. GRRRLcampus should be a support system for all those who feel a similar passion and dedication to the feminist cause. You are awesome!

Thank you so much for doing all that you do! Let's be friends!

    Frankie

    P.S. Stephen, you are amazing!
